The Lavazza History
A Proud History In 1895, a young entrepreneur named Luigi Lavazza opened a grocer’s shop in Turin, Italy. From the beginning Lavazza coffee was a drink imbued with prestige. Luigi Lavazza roasted his own brand with the fine attention to detail that is the hallmark of Italian craftsmanship. A perfectionist by nature, Lavazza’s unrelenting pursuit for the ultimate cup of espresso led him to develop the world’s first commercial coffee blends in the early 1900’s.
A Tradition of Innovation Lavazza grew into a large-scale industrial company and has since established itself as the market leader in Italy. The company’s expansion now comprises 80 countries, and has set up seven direct partner companies in major European countries and the United States. The Lavazza family continues to uphold the tradition of innovation and old-world Italian artistry that has made our coffee famous. In the 1960’s for instance, it was the first to experiment with vacuum packed ground coffee, a revolution which earned it a substantial competitive edge. With Lavazza’s ongoing development of exciting new coffee blends and brewing methods, the company continues to expand the borders of international coffee culture.
An Exciting Today The contemporary Lavazza, Italy’s Favourite coffee company is a global powerhouse but it still makes products with the same attention to detail that made Luigi Lavazza’s coffee famous. This continued focus on quality is no accident. The company today is the world’s largest family-owned roaster, with the fourth generation of Lavazza’s leading the way into the new millennium.
